Overview

Avian Air is a web prototype that I designed to be the ideal airline website. I got the idea for the project when I was planning a trip to Japan. While planning the trip I visited dozens of airlines websites daily to get the best price for my flight. After repeatedly visiting those websites day after day I made note of the aspects I liked about each website, and things I disliked about each website. On top of my initial likes and dislikes I also added accessibility ideas such as using universally legible icons in place of text.

Preliminary User Flow

This is the preliminary mapping of how the user can navigate throughout the prototype.

Sketches

Rough sketches were drawn out while trying to create a visual representation of the product, while referencing the user flow diagram.

Mock-Ups

Low-fidelity mockups were created to visualize ideas and concepts for the team.

User Interviews

I conducted four in person interviews with two participants while working on this project. The participants were interviewed during two separate stages of the project where I asked them non-leading questions about the prototype. I asked the participants to complete specific tasks in the prototype while speaking their thought process aloud. Hearing their thought process and watching them navigate the early prototype gave me a lot of useful input for creating the final product.

Final Product

The final product of the Avian Air prototype is an interactive visualization of the ideal airline website interface. I created the prototype by following the goal directed design process of researching, surveying, and creating iterated designs. Conducting user interviews provided me with useful advice such as to redesign some the navigation. To help raise accessibility on the website I used a globe icon to change the language of the website. The final product can be accessed by following the link below.
